How to Make Your “Someday” Idea a Reality

Stop waiting for the “right” time…

How many times a day, do you say "Someday"?

It will probably only take you 2 seconds to think of that idea that seemingly popped out of nowhere last week. Or the one that has been sitting on your heart, possibly waiting for years for you to take action on it...

But, before I jump into our how-to today, I want to read you a quip excerpt from, “The Magnolia Story” by Chip and Joanna Gaines:

“We’d only been living in the yellow house for about a month when I flipped open that yellow pad and showed Chip some of my ideas. Remodeling and redecorating that house had filled me with all sorts of new inspiration, so I showed him the sketches and plans I had made for a little home decor shop. I told him I wanted to apply everything I’d learned from this house and my days wandering around Manhattan to a business idea I’d been playing around with.

“Someday,” I said.

“Why not right now?” Chip replied.

“What do you mean?”

“Go drive around and find a building you like, and let’s do it. We’ll fix it up just like we’re fixing up this house, and you can open your business right now.”

“Are you serious?”

“Of course I’m serious! Go find a building and let’s do it! Why not?”

I love this story and this moment, right here.

This is the moment we all need right?

How to make your "Someday" idea a reality - Brightly & Co. - Brightly Immersive Mastermind

How do we make our “Someday” ideas happen? We need to tap into our “Chip” side of the brain. The part of the brain that goes for it! Doesn’t stop to ask, “how?” but instead, simply does. The side of the brain that doesn’t ask for permission. The side of the brain that believes in you.

Now, for most of us, especially of the female sort… <wink> we tend to err on the side of caution. It’s not quite as simple as all that in our brains, just as Joanna Gaines expressed in the story above. We love to complicate it… think about ALL the details and then get overwhelmed.

I say this because I do this ALL the time. Haha!

It’s not easy to tap into the side of our brain that just… goes for it!

So here’s what I want you to know, even though it’s not easy to tap into that side of the brain, it is possible.

Here’s how to make your “Someday” idea a reality:

1 | Believe in it

It’s important to make your “Someday idea” a reality that is possible of obtaining. So often we tell ourselves that our “Someday ideas” are too dreamy and we leave them in the clouds.

Not today my dear, you are going to BELIEVE in this idea.

I want you to take a moment and write out what your “Someday idea” is. Grab a journal (or my favorite, a GINORMOUS piece of paper) and write it down.

Then answer these questions:

  • What will it feel like to make this “Someday idea” a reality? (Get specific. What emotions will you feel - really feel those emotions.)

  • How will I celebrate it?

  • What will it look like to make this a reality? (Can you picture it? Write out what the picture looks like).

Hold this picture in your mind. Post this page somewhere you can see it all the time or read it each week (or every day). LOVE on this idea - because it’s POSSIBLE!!

2 | Trust and work with OTHERS.

You can’t do it all alone. Especially those “Someday” ideas… if they’re for “Someday” that means they’re pretty big. You need help. You need a buddy system, a coach or a mastermind to help get you there.

Trusting and working with others holds you accountable to that big “Someday” idea, because you, more than likely, will try to self-sabotage, even if you’re not conscious of it.

Trusting and working with others allows you to borrow someone else’s brain for awhile. This might sound strange, but it’s key to making things happen! You need to hear, learn from and trust other perspectives. Also, when a group comes together for a like cause you get to partake in that momentum which will help propel you forward.

“When a group of individual brains are coordinated and function in harmony, the increased energy created through that alliance, becomes available to every individual in the group.”
- Napoleon Hill, “Think and Grow Rich”

3 | Don’t jump to the details, yet…

If you’re a type A go-getter, you LOVE jumping to the “how” as quickly as possible. (I hear you friend, and I'm right there with you).

We begin with the phrase, “someday I want to do this” and then wham, BAM! we’re stuck in the details of figuring out how to make it all work, and we get overwhelmed, because it’s too much to take on, and thusly stop ourselves short of even beginning.

Raise your hand if this is you.

<mine’s raised>

The power of our ideas is in the WHAT - the longer we can stay here, the more likely it is our “Someday” idea will become a reality. This is about trusting the process, trusting the fact that you had the idea and you’re going to take action on that idea, even if it means just writing it down for now.

Keep yourself in the space of WHAT for as long as you can, and instead of asking HOW you can make this happen, ask yourself, what’s the first step? (What’s the second? Third?)

And before you know it, you’re making your “Someday” idea a reality. Look back at the story up top, Chip didn’t go through a long to-do list of ALL the things that would have to happen to make this “Someday idea” a reality, he simply stated the first step; “Go drive around and find a building you like, and let’s do it. We’ll fix it up just like we’re fixing up this house, and you can open your business right now.”

So what’s your first step?

Take a break from this blog post to write down your big “Someday idea” and the first step you need to take to make this a reality.

Okay, if you’re feeling brave I’m hoping you might share with me your idea in the comments. Let this be your FIRST step to making your “Someday idea” a reality.

To help you feel brave in sharing, I want to share with you one of my “Someday ideas”...

As of right now, I have created a high-end Mastermind (without the high-end price point) because it's been on my heart to create an incredible experience for those of you who are longing or something like that, but aren't able to pay that $10,000 price point yet.  This Mastermind includes a retreat to one of two incredible brands (where we can learn while having a blast!) - this WAS a “Someday idea” for me, that is now a reality. Because I went for it!

So naturally, my new “Someday idea” is now on the horizon, and only you get to know what this is, I'm not posting it anywhere else yet...but I plan to create my own movement + conference... and it's going to be totally different, just like my current Mastermind. Something you haven't experienced before, but will challenge you and help you transform your business from the inside out.

YIKES! This is the kind of fear worth pursuing. (The excited kind).

Okay, it’s your turn now… be brave! Comment your “Someday idea” below and let this be your first step to making it a reality.

P.S. I only have 6 spots left for my Masterminds this year. They are 6 months each with one branding/business retreat included at either Magnolia Market (hence using this story today) and Disneyland! Applications are currently open - click here to apply. (This introductory price is for this year only, so if you've been on the fence, don't wait - you will save over $3,000 if you sign up this year).
